Catholic Response to ObamaCare

Sourc: http://hotair.com/archives/2012/01/31/bishops-pledge-to-defy-obama-administration-on-contraception-mandate/

At least three Catholic bishops have said they will not comply with the mandate the Obama administration put in place recently in Obamacare that will force religious employers to pay for birth control, contraception and drugs that may cause abortions in their health care plans.

The Obama Administration issued a statement re-iterating the “contraceptive mandate” requiring all insurance providers cover the full range of FDA-approved drugs and devices would remain intact. This mandate, originally proposed in August, includes drugs that work after conception to destroy life rather than prevent it. The statement included a postponement of one year for religious groups that do not already carry contraceptives and additionally would not be exempted under last year’s narrow definition of “religious employer.”

The mandate not only violates such existing conscience protections on abortion such as the Hyde/Weldon Amendment (in so far as Plan B and Ella are covered), but also violates the principles of the Church Amendments which protects conscience rights for those who object to contraceptives and other services on moral or religious grounds.

Responding to it, Bishop Thomas Olmstead of Phoenix announced that his diocese will not comply with the mandate and Archbishop Dennis Schnurr of Cincinnati and Bishop David Ricken of Green Bay, agreed to refuse to comply.

  • Just because a law mandates free contraception is "offered" doesn't mean you have to use it.
If catholics are truely against birth control, they will not use the free contraception.

The government is not putting the rubber on you or forcing women to take birth control pills.

  • When did the Catholic church become so high and mighty with their history of mismanaging funds, relocating pedophiles to more innocent children, and starting holy wars?!

  • The catholic church is the reason why the AIDS epidemic is so huge. I wonder what it must be like to live in the stone ages. They talk about being progressive and different from other religions, namely Islam. But this just goes to show along with all of the other shit like protecting pedophiles and ostracizing women that they are still just as archaic and should be erased.

  • Why do religious numbnuts need medical insurance or indeed, doctors? Surely their sky fairy takes care of all their needs, no?

Anyway, this isn't hypocritical as such, not as much as using a word like "limbo" for 1500 years plus and then completely dropping it. What of the damages that has caused to women of religion who thought their unchristened babies and abortions were forever in a world of torment; neither in heaven nor hell?

Religion is fucking hideous. It's religion that need More..

  • Any form of religion agreeing or disagreeing with anything means nothing. I don't like Obama or his big corporate government, but religion means no more or less than he does to me.

  • Don't pay and you won't get a health insurance. So what's the problem? You don't need it...you can pray for health.

  • There are some religions that dont believe in medical intervention and instead use faith to cure illness. IN cases of parents doing this for their kids this by law is child abuse. If you want to Run a hospital and use science to cure and heal then BY GOD supply it. If a patient doesnt want birth control then dont give it to em. You cant have it both ways.

  • Why would priests be obsessed with abortion when they only practice anal sex with little boys?

When these parasites start paying tax on their income and holdings like the rest of us then they can start having opinions, until then STFU.

  • Will you ever record video on something bad happening in your family and post to some unknown people and your family haters? I don't think so. And you call yourself a Catholic? Seems like you are agains family, aka. very bad family member. Church can make a mestake, but that does not give you the right to flame on Her and drag away people even more from Jesus Christ which is only One important.

One more thing, you judging and going agains Church only based on "NEWS PAPER" article. 80% More..

    • @freddybear22 well that would have no point, contraception helps prevent a strain on our society's resources, condoms help prevent STD and STI transmission especially HIV and AIDS. Ignorance must truly be bliss huh?

    • @freddybear22
No, it's like offering free bacon to Muslims. They don't have to eat it, Catholics don't have to use the birth control.

      It's just free.

    • @freddybear22 That would also be the case for Kosher jewish food. However, I know of many jews and muslims that eat pig, and I know many that don't...surely it's up to the individual, not an all powerful thought police organisation like a church or mosque or any other cult.
