Kicking him out of the game was proper. But when he continues to act up afterward, whining and throwing a tantrum, it should have cost him his right to play, not just one game, but for many. There should be a cost to bad behavior. Behaving in a civilized manner should be emphasized and expected by parents and being an asshole should have a cost so high, most would not be willing to pay the price.
