South Jersey Man Gives Up His Obama Flag But Not His Opinions

By Pat Loeb...A South Jersey man has come up with what he hopes is a solution to a controversy over the American flag that he flew in his yard — a flag bearing the image of President Barack Obama in place of the field of stars.Wes Kennedy, of the Acacia housing development in Lumberton, says he had no idea some of his neighbors had a problem with his flag until reporters started calling and telling him (see related video).

“If someone had come to me in the beginning, I would have said, ‘Let’s sit down and talk to see what we might reasonably come up with as a solution.’”

Once he became aware of their objections, Kennedy worked out his own solution.

He’s taken the flag down and replaced it with two separate flags — one, the standard stars and stripes, and the second a picture of Obama.

Kennedy hopes his neighbors are happy, though he’s not sure.

“In Acacia, there are some angry, maybe even evil-minded people about Obama,” he tells KYW Newsradio.

Kennedy stresses that he loves his community, but thinks people need to talk to each other reasonably about their differences. http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2012/04/12/south-jersey-man-gives-up-his-obama-flag-but-not-his-opinions/

Wonder if this would be his answer if his neighbor had hung a Confederate battle flag. You know, everyone is so reasonable about that.

Being from Canada, you clearly don't understand. Its a Southern thing. And its nothing like flying a state flag. Most of the southern states have incurred much liberal/race professional wrath for flying it. Spend about ninety seconds on google and you'll find the stories.

Oh, and I agree. There's nothing wrong with flying the Confederate flag. It is, after all, free speech. At least until some lib/race group sees political gain by protesting said speech.

    • @copperdog3 i understand - in canada we have french seperatist assholes who fly the quebecois flag and not the national flag.

its important to note that the american civil war had nothing to do with slavery or abolitionism - it was purely economical.

  • It's kind of a window into the mindset of an Obama supporter. They support Obama the person, the personality, and apparently give little thought to policy or even country. I could never imagine any conservative thinking it would be ok to put Reagans face on the flag.

That being said he has every right to fly any flag he wants to. It is quite revealing though.

Some frigid lesbian chick totally dumped on Mitt's wife because she was a stay-at-home mom, never held a job in her life, and had no standing to comment on anything. Basically your barefoot and pregnant ditz. But hell, its the republicans waging war on women. Go figure.

I've been at work all day so I don't have a specific link. I can say its been all over Drudge and talk radio today. Google Romney and Rosen. You'll find it.

The story will likely show up on LL in an hour or More..

Its not illegal to fly something that is not the US Flag.

Sure, its cloth that resembles our flag, and its in poor taste, but its not our flag.
As such, its not governed by our National Flag laws.

I fly cloth all the time that is not our flag from my Flag post. Most recently I flew a Easter Flag. And I also have the right to bear the brunt of the social repercussions of my Easter flag.

But its not our National Flag.

I personally don't care what the guy does; I would have shrugged at his symbol of Obama-worship as merely a sign of a weak mind. But nobody with a shadow of a shard of a clue could possibly fail to know that that flag was going to piss some people off in a really major way.

  • If people wanted to really respect the flag they would:
Stop leaving them out in the rain
Stop leaving them up at night without a light
Stop wearing them as pieces of clothes
Stop buying American flags made in China
Stop disposing them in the garbage.
STOP FLYING THE CONFEDERATE FLAG WITH IT

95% of the people on this site and in this country have no clue what the written guidelines for handling the flag are. So unless you're following the rules to a t and have the boy scouts dispose of your old More..

I was not aware flying them in the rain was against regs.

The goal is not to preserve the flag itself, but to fly it respectfully, and then properly dispose of- and replace them when the flag is no longer serviceable.

The sad part is that most of the race baiters wouldn't know the real confederate national flag if it flew in front of their faces. They all focus on the Dukes of Hazzard battle flag and they think their job is done. Ignorance is a bitch.

And, we need not mention the hell the odd marine gets if he/she dares to fly the real American flag in their condo window or More..
