The parents of Travis Baumgartner, the man accused of killing three
of his co-workers and injuring a fourth last week, told CTV News they
are still trying to come to terms with the events of the last few days.
Less than two days after her son was arrested in BC, while trying to
cross the border into the United States – Sandy Baumgartner had a hard
time putting her feelings into words.
"I just want to say there [are] no words," Sandy Baumgartner said Monday.


"We ourselves are heartbroken and truly devastated," The suspect's father said.


His father asked to have his identity concealed, for fear of repercussions from the public.


Their son was arrested Saturday afternoon, as he attempted to cross
the border at the Lynden, Washington US-Canada border crossing located
south of Abbotsford, BC.
Customs officials said he had a backpack with him when he was arrested, containing $330,000.


He is in custody in a police station in Langley, BC, where police
said he will stay until sheriffs escort him back to Edmonton in the
coming days.
According to police, Sandy Baumgartner and her son had argued over money just before he left for work.


It's an incident the mother described as a typical argument.


She said her son wanted to one day become a police officer.


"That's what's so insane about this, a week before this happened, he
actually e-mailed me an application for the city police, for me to print
off and bring home.
"He actually had it half filled out, and this all happened."


Both parents told CTV News they haven't spoken to their son since he
was arrested, and are thankful he was arrested without incident.
Speaking through tears, Sandy Baumgartner said she is sorry for what
happened, and is mourning for the four victims and their families.
"There [are] not even words to say how sorry we are for what has
happened to these victims, and the families that are involved,"
Baumgartner said through tears. "If we could take it back, if there was
anything that could be done."
