Okay now watch the debate again. Notice how it is Obama looking down the whole time and not Romney? Or how halfway through the debate he picks it up and wipes his nose with it. It is clearly a handkerchief. Not really a prop or an aide if you have the sniffles and don't want snot coming out of your nose on national TV.
