Man with head injury, part of ear missing found in BMW trunk as cops investigated fender-bender

Cops investigating a fender-bender in upper Manhattan Wednesday morning made a startling discovery when they popped the trunk of a BMW: A severely injured man was tied up inside with part of an ear missing.

Police said the driver of the luxury car slammed his vehicle into the back of a livery cab on snow-covered Dyckman St., just off the exit ramp from the Harlem River Drive.

It happened shortly after 9 a.m., as yet another snowfall blanketed the city.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles before the BMW's mysterious driver ran off, cops said.

The hack called 911 - and cops quickly found out why the man was so quick to abandon his high-priced ride.

They spotted blood on the trunk, opened it and found a man bound and unconscious inside, a police source said. He had been beaten and suffered a severe head injury, cops said.

One of his ears was nearly sliced off, a police source said.

Emergency workers took the victim to Harlem Hospital. He was initially in critical condition, but doctors were able to stabilize him, cops said.

The victim, a black man wearing sweatpants, wasn't carrying identification, police said. A more complete description of him wasn't immediately available.

Cops tried to trace the BMW's license plate, but no records were found. Investigators believe the BMW and the license plate were stolen, police sources said.
