Surveillance video that led to assault charges for a Prince George’s County police officer appears to show a gun firing as an officer struck a man in February.
The footage from a Brentwood, Md., store appears to show Corp. Donald Taylor striking 19-year-old Ryan Dorm with his gun. A flash upon impact appears to be the gun firing.
Taylor lied about the incident, police said. The officer claimed Dorm, believed to be involved in an
attempted robbery at a gas station, reached for the officer’s weapon.
Dorm spent about four months in jail before prosecutors dropped the charges against him.
"Well, the video contradicts what the officer originally wrote in his charging documents,” said Dorm’s lawyer, Jimmy Bell. “What it shows is that my client didn't lie. They print my client is a criminal. They put his face on television saying he committed these crimes, and he didn't."
Taylor was charged with second-degree assault last month.
Dorm and his lawyer filed a $10 million lawsuit against the police department and Taylor.

Piece of shit cops saw the tape 2 days after he was arrested.....he still spent 4 months in jail.
All the cops that saw that tape and didn't report it to a higher authority are JUST as guilty as the dirty cop in that video.
GOOD cops who protect BAD cops....aren't.

@Deeki
In point of fact, every arrest that cop made over his entire career is now in question.
The only hope is that he's had an uneventful career with few arrests, but that's not very likely.
Anyone and everyone this cop ever put in jail who has a half-dead, half-asleep attorney will be filing motions to be released unconditionally.
Past complaints, valid or not, will be revived and re-submitted.
Sentences will be shortened, court dates cancelled and charges dropped, new lawsuits filed.
More..

Not to mention improper use of a firearm and filing a false police report, and then sitting quietly while the kid did time in jail based on that dishonest report.

Wow. If that surveillance footage didn't exist, this police officer word likely wouldn't be questioned, and no doubt this young guy would still be in jail. Which begs the question how many incidents like this go unchallenged when there isn't video evidence to dispute the officer's account.

Probably a fair number, although I wouldn't be too worried. Most police officers are not pathetic liars, despite many people's negative opinions on them.

I agree.
At what point is something meaningful going to be done?
With the prevalence of cameras in public these days, such incidents will be captured more often.
There needs to be some sort of independent agency/committee to investigate ALL reports of police misconduct.

And with his finger on the trigger, too. What a goon. How can a man who does not know the basics of trigger discipline and general weapon safety be expected to safely do his duty as an officer?
Finger off the trigger unless you intend to fire.

Anyway, that cop truly deserves some jail time. How could he sleep at night knowing he sent that guy to jail on false charges?

What you are missing is the fact the suspect was struck in the face with a firearm with a finger on the trigger....hmmmm gun accidentally goes off killing suspect(bullet in head) goes well with the officers report..""reached for the officer’s weapon..". You don't hit a suspect whos back is to you in the face with a finger on a firearm if u don't intend to do harm....accidentally that is!

This Cop should be disbarred and never allowed to carry a gun ever. Also he should immediately serve four months in jail like his victim. Then he should be brought up on serious charges. No way should he be allowed in any form of job like this one. Cops (not all) are getting way outa hand. Why is the general public the enemy now? To Protect and to Serve. yeah each other.
Who polices the police? We need a special task force to over see the ones who are suppose to up hold the law and to hold them More..

The simple solution is for the taxpayers to demand that their local government and police leadership make sure that the cops behave as the law says they should.

He won't get paid. He wasn't shot... and spending some time in jail prior to having charges dropped or null prosed isn't unusual either.
That's just crazy to ask for such a high amount.

@Ben Cambone Good points. You're probably right. And I agree that asking for $10 million is silly. It's not like he was in prison for years, he was in jail for months. But that's the typically litigious American "legal" system for you. Lawyers are vampires. Anyway, cheers, bro.

Spending time in jail before charges are dropped due to lack of evidence is very different than spending time in jail before charges are dropped due to false evidence by police.

What false evidence? Him and his friend were at a convenience store looking suspicious. His friend (wearing a ski mask) was stopped and questioned and he walked off. The officer told him to stop but he kept walking. For all the officer knew, they could've been robbing the store and this kid (possibly armed) may have ran off to ditch evidence.
This kid has numerous past charges for handgun possession and assaults.

Officer Taylor was charged today with with official misconduct, reckless endangerment and second-degree assault. The police chief said heads will roll in his department over this since there was more than just one individual involved in the corruption, and pledged transparency and reform.
Keep a voice recorder with you at all times. Install a dashcam in your car. Our only defense against government, until the revolution, is the exposure of truth.

@diggingforgold recording someone's voice without their consent is likely to put you in violation of wiretapping laws. Police have increasingly been using this to go after people recording them.
Note that these laws apply to recording audio only, NOT to video.
