  • That was also before many unions became bloodthirsty groups of fervent liberals intent on holding taxpayers and businesses hostage to get their absurd demands.

This was also before the country moved dramatically to the left.

    • @cswartz You know why Unions went Liberal? Reagan drove them there.

Maybe so, I also think the Democratic pandering played a role.

Either way, unions have grown too powerful. It is time to drag them out of their fantasy land and force them to tighten their belts...like everyone else will have to do.

    • @cswartz No, it was Reagan's betrayal to the FAA who was the biggest Union backing him.

Yup. When they striked, he fired the lot of them.

At least he had some backbone. Those people's jobs had to be done, and if they weren't going to do them, others would have to.

    • @cswartz Backbone? betrayal isn't backbone, it's a sign of no backbone. And the FAA has been shit ever since

  • You lost a lot of democrats to the right because of all the gun grabbing. To make up for it Democrats are opening the flood gates to illigal mexicans and trying to screw soldiers out of their vote. Stay classy Libs.

  • How about getting rid of the two party system in America, it's very un-democratic.

They need to revise it, so instead of a "winner take all" mentality, it would be more of marginalized representation dependent on the amount of votes. I think more parties would be represented, besides, that's what America is all about isn't it?

    • @mphatik The US Republic was actually set up to serverely curtail Democracy, which was distrusted as a form of anarchy...the concept of elite and ruled was there from the start...with the innovation that Govt would be rotated and voted in and out by citizens to give at least some 'representation'

If you look at the average citizen, its not actually such a bad idea...

    • @ElegantDecline It's called a democratic REPUBLIC for a reason, but I agree with mphatik that the bi-partisan system is a heap of shit, and all it does is mislead the "average citizen"(lower on the IQ scales) into thinking that the only choice is what they think is the lesser of two evils, instead of having a real choice, where you vote for whoever is willing to take the office of president and do that job better than all the others.

    • @EmrysM that's stupid, we don't need 3 or 4 parties, we just need Conservatism to win but you democrats are welcome to split your party up, nothing would be better for the country

  • From an outsiders perspective, religion and Israel seem to define the 21stC Republicans...which pretty much says it all...

Don't know if the Dem's are any better, but there you have it...

  • The whole bi-partisan system is destined to fail.

The US and Canada need to switch to a system of representative democracy. It only makes sense that people should be governed in a way that is proportionate to the will of the population in general.

It would get rid of the partisan filibustering and ensure that the government actually had the will of the people and best interest of the country in mind. They'd have no choice but to cooperate because the duality would be replaced with a pluralit More..

    • @jum_runky That sort of democracy would not work here in the USA.

The population of people living off of entitlements would send us into ruin overnight.

Make them work. FDR-style make work projects. Don't work? Don't get paid.

    • @jum_runky Would love to see them work but it offends their delicate nature to have to actually get up, go to work and take some responsibility for themselves.

We have people of a similar mindset in Canada.

I have a hunch that their tune would change when the free money stopped rolling in.

    • @aussite @aussite You make it sound like the majority of Americans are invalids or something. How many people do you honestly know like that?

  • Echo, while I get your point it would have had more weight if you had also included how the democrats have morphed into the emotional train wreck they have become today.

I think the democratic party of JFK would be a very good place to start your upcoming comparison of the left and the changes they have undergone since then.

I agree. People always talk about how Republicans have changed so much, but don't mention how Democrats have become a bunch of over regulating, overspending, pandering fools that either lead the charge with the stupid government intervention that is screwing us, or are accomplices to moderate Republicans doing the same shit.

    • @aussite If anything the Dems have gone further right, example > Clinton administration. I would argue the Dems today resemble more the Republicans of yesterday.

    • @Zardoz003 More delusions I see.

The dems have moved far far left and you know it.

if you can't admit that then you are seriously lost.

    • @aussite No, the right is far far far more right than ever. History shows this, it is you who are disillusioned buddy. I can't stand both so that is probably why I can see more clearly than partisans such as yourself.

  • As Barry Goldwater predicted, the party was taken over by fundamentalists, evangelicals and 'social conservatives'.

IOW, hypocritical cowards w/no interest in rational thought.

The evidence is presented here daily.

  • Wow that's a blast from the past, those were the days of real conservatism and a real republican party to be proud of.

Seriously, where the fuck did they go?

  • In 1956, everyone had a job that paid well enough that no families needed two incomes. The rich were investing to grow their empires. Now, the baby boomers are trying to retire with the maximum amount that they can take out of the economy and so, the economy is barely sputtering along.

Republic'nt backroom men are green-blooded. GOP does what the secret money tells 'em to do. The greedy, babyboomers want lower taxes, no health care and lots of prisons so their retirement years will be better fo More..

  • Now Republicans are Zionist shills that serve Israel's interests. There is still Ron Paul, but republican voters are too dumbed down to understand him.

  • Easy: when the democrats started adopting repubicans' ideas, the repubicans had to contradict them no matter what.

In that they haven't changed at all with what we see today.

  • The Republican Party was taken over by Neo-Conservatists. Neo-Conservatism = Trotskyism = Marxism = Communism.

  • You can easily buy a politician if you have the right amount of money.

Both parties are guilty. Third party voting would be nice.
