@Gulf Flyer Apaches have a pretty poor rate of being down for equipment malfunctions, especially compared to the Marine Twin engined Cobras. The Cobra can do anything a Apache can, except it has a 20mm vulcan instead of a 30mm chain gun.Both are electric, so they never jam. The Cobra fires Rockets, Hellfires, or TOWs.

@Gulf Flyer cobras are smaller and easier for storage on aircraft carriers sense the marines are part of the navy.

@grunt I can assure you the AH unit that supported me during OEF had a 92% OR rate and rarely missed a mission.
I don't have an AH-1 performance chart but I know the 64 has no problem performing an OGE hover with a lotta rockets, 30MM, and Kilo- Hellfires. Something an AH-1W can't do.
I hope the Zulu performs better especially with the 4 bladed main rotors.
So no, Cobras can't do anything Apache's can do. I'm a CH47 guy and would always choose the 64 as an escort aircraft.

@w55ks I'm very familiar who the Marines are a Department of, my father is a retired Marine. I also understand the amphibious part, the MR blades fold for transport on the Apache bringing me back to my "Why"
I believe it's pollitical and status that keeps the Cobra with the corps... nothing else

@Galveston17 AH1Z Cobra. A much improved and upgraded Cobra version. The airframes get rebuilt into a whole new aircraft. The Marines have upgraded all their Hueys also. They are twin engined also. The Army used singleengine Cobras and Hueys back in the day, when they used them.
