"If every trace of any single religion died out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created exactly that way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it all out again." - Penn Jilete

@verycoolcat that is actually a well thought out, ever true quote.

I have always appreciated Penn's wisdom, but that is amazingly astute.

@verycoolcat I love me some Penn Jillette but as a person of faith I have to disagree with him on this issue. This argument only holds up if you don't agree with the notion of God revealing truth to us, something you are perfectly entitled to believe or not. It's one of those statements that sounds like a slam dunk but, unusually for Penn, it only holds up if you don't think about it more deeply.

Although I respect your right to believe what you want, the only thing I know is that there have been many a religions throughout history. Many that pre-date christianity by thousands of years. Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Norse, Roman, Egyptian, Greek, Babylonian, Zoroastrianism. Even now there are religions including deviations of Christianity that spring up Mormonism, Lutheran, Catholic, Protestant, Scientology, Flying Spaghetti Monster, and we're not even talking abo More..

It is time that ALL religious groups loss their tax exempt status, then they can say whatever they want.
Pastor Goebbels here wants HIS morality to be encoded in law. I love how he can parse an issue. Religious nutcases will be the end of our democracy.
Father Beck seems quite precious too, as an aside.

if God would be angry with America because of baby killings he would be way angrier with Brazil or Mexico for their first degree murders.

1. o'reilly is a grade A nutjob.
2. The guest, pastor Jeffress is an even bigger nutjob.
He's also bloody dangerous! He sits there with a fake pious grin on his fucking face that you just want to punch, trying to convince people that religion should have a voice in politics.
There's supposed to be a clear and unwavering division between church and state. Once that line is blurred - you, as a free citizen, are fucked.
As in good and proper fucked! And it makes no diffrence if your democrat, repu More..

@MrScabs
We have similar problems here in Sweden.
I'm about to move to a town up north and have been spending several nights now pouring over internet forums trying to figure out which parts of town are infested so I can avoid them.
Not even safe in my own country anymore. Sweden will be a muslim republic in 30 years.

so a pastor stops being a pastor when he leaves the church? sorry, but being a clergyman isn't just a position you can 'leave at the office' in order to go out and exercise your first amendment rights -- that argument just doesn't hold water.

Pundits from both sides practice this double-standard with fervor.
Not to mention that their "hot topics" are generally polarized trivialities that serve to distract the american populous from the wanton waste and corruption within the government.

I watched this interview and found it to be quite interesting.
Although this is a baited post by someone who finds that religion and politics are some what of a fallacy.
The bottom line is; that sacrificing the Rights of an individual (religious or not) for political gain is wrong.

If they want to be involved in politics they must pay taxes, that was the deal when they were given the exemption and if it was enforced many of those mega churches and 700 club brainwashing institutions would be taxed and rightfully so.
And btw that "Pastor" needs to be taken out to pasture pretending to himself that the holocaust happened because Christians did not get involved in politics. What a rewriting of history. Always from the right they fucking rewrite history and I can't s More..

@Zardoz003 You just proved yourself wrong, it was because Christians didn't stand up against Hitler who was using it as a crutch by brainwashing the people. self ownage dude, you always trip yourself with that lower lip.

@BigGunz30 You can pretend all you want, but the facts are clear, the "Christians" loved Hitler and Hitler used that shit religion as a tool for political gain. Sound familiar?
Your ridiculous argument is based on who the "real christians" were and what they didn't do, is dog shit, complacency isn't an excuse and they weren't complacent, they were willing participants.

@dcmfox If Dutch catholic church is a measure for all churches.. You are right. Lots of boys were abused by priests. A large scale investigation was performen in the last year, covering decades of filth. They 'overlooked' abuse by some priests who are now higher up in the ranks of the church, so the story isn't finished.
