He was lucky. The impact was far up the leg. If he'd been impacted by the hoof, he'd have not gotten up so quickly. What he did isn't a problem if you train the horse to be mounted this way. I mounted horses this way in the past without problems. Not a good idea to surprise a horse with that trick though. In that sense, yeah, he got what he deserved.
