Begs the question, do tarantulas die of molt problems in the wild, or is this a product of an unnatural environment/captivity?

@Grace37 They most certainly do. Generally they happen during periods of drought when the Tarantula cannot manage to slide out of it's old skin due to lack of hydration but T. blondii seems extremely predisposed to getting stuck in their molts randomly regardless of humidity and water availability.

I learned a lot from this vid . . . but I'm still not getting a pet tarantula.

@GShock112 Spiders shed (or 'molt') their skin.

@GShock112
Your tarantula and molting
Molting is a process tarantulas go though as they grow. They shed off their old skin much like snakes. The entire molting process is a very difficult and strenuous experience for your pet spider.

T. blondii is especially susceptible to these "bad molts". Hope she pulled through. I have never had a T get stuck in their molt so I'm definitely bookmarking this video for future reference should it happen. I have also never owned a blondii which I kick myself for every day.
Edit: Just saw the update that she didn't pull through. Shitty.

BTW I'm digging all of the recent tarantula vids on liveleak. It might be youtube stuff but I'm certainly biased as a tarantula enthusiast. The videos that always amaze me are the ones of people letting their 8 inch Pokies crawl around on them. The Poecilotheria genus is not known for being mild mannered and their venom packs a punch by tarantula standards.

@ronaldo_popkings
It's the exoskeleton that is shedded to make room for growth. Alot like a snake shedding it's skin.
