45-minute long film released on one-year anniversary of former captive's release describes process of planning, training and execution of Gilad Shalit abduction in June 2006
Members of Hamas' military wing led a mass march in the Gaza Strip on Thursday to mark the anniversary of the prisoner exchange deal that saw 1,027 Palestinians released from Israeli prisons in exchange for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
At a news conference in Rafah the spokesman of Hamas' military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, pledged further prisoner exchanges, the Ma'an news agency reported.
"This swap deal will not be the last. We will always act in order to secure the release of all detainees," Abu Obaida said.
During the march, Hamas militants waved photos of prisoners who were freed in the deal.
Abu Mojad, one of Hamas' field commanders, said that the purpose of the parade was to emphasize to the Palestinian people that Hamas does not fear Israel's threats.
"We promised, we fulfilled our promise; we will always fulfill our promises. The release of the detainees is our top priority, and the resistance will always work to achieve this goal," Abu Obaida said.
"Armed resistance groups will always defend their people, will always act for the liberation of Palestine, and the release of all detainees," he added.
Hamas Prime Minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh said at a ceremony marking the deal's one year anniversary the exchange "must serve as a road map for the future release of Palestinian prisoners."
He further added, "The prisoner exchange deal is an important chapter in the Palestinian people's history."
"The abduction missions scored an overwhelming triumph for the Palestinian resistance. Our warriors fought valiantly and managed to embarrass the enemy and place Israel in a political and security related crisis," Haniyeh said.
Haniyeh added that Hamas emerged victorious for managing to keep Shalit undetected in Gaza for five years.
On Thursday evening, Hamas' military wing released a 45-minute long film telling the story of the former soldier's abduction from planning to execution, as well as the prisoner exchange deal that saw him freed.
The director of the film known as Abu Shuhaib said that the film reveals the abduction from the Hamas' point of view and hinted that an additional film could documenting Shalit's time in captivity could be released in the future.
