'Kim Il-Sung's Birthday Party'
Traveling to the Hermit Kingdom is already bizarre enough, but when we heard that North Korea would be celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Great Leader & eternal president, Kim Il-sung, there was no way to let such an epic birthday party slip through our hands.
Laurence Keefe, Kirill Korobkov and I flew over to Pyongyang for two days to witness the madness. While skateboarding within the DPRK was our main intention, it was overshadowed by the celebrations & the 'no sliding' anywhere rule.
The three minute clip portrays a small insight into North Korea from the 15th of April 2012.

North Korea is supposed to be a workers utopia but do you notice you never see them working? They waste all their time standing around waving flags and bunches of flowers. And did you notice all the medals on their military officers, where the hell did they come from if North Korea hasn't been involved in a war for over 50 years? Maybe they get them for knot tying and building bird feeders out of pine cones...

Two skateboards and a smartphone they bring out on special occasions to show the west they are normal. A subway that has one stop. And everyone you see has the large head and stalk like neck of chronic malnutrition.
One day the end will come but it won't be pretty. They say that defectors from the North usually have mental issues living in the South. They have a hard time adjusting to the fact that literally everything they knew was wrong.
