There is no end in sight to violence in Syria. The country’s historic heritage continues to suffer as a result of the foreign-backed insurgency there.
Recent reports say insurgents have destroyed a number of oldest Jewish mausoleums in the historic town of Tadouf in the northwestern Aleppo province. Militants have destroyed several holy sites since the beginning of the unrest in Syria. Recently, the notorious al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra Front stormed the Christian village of Ma'lula near Damascus and destroyed parts of it. The village, which is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, is home to several ancient churches and important monasteries. Syria’s been dealing with a foreign-backed insurgency for more than two years now.
