Roller Coaster cable broke.
This is the Xcelerator Roller Coaster at Knott's Berry Farm. In 2009, as the ride started, a cable broke, and the 12 year old boy on the left suffered lacerations to his leg.
Most of the riders were sprayed with sharp shards of metal.
As of 2011, the two riders at the front won a large settlement from Knott's Berry Farm.

@FatBastard_2010 agree...anyone remember the one about 10 yrs ago, where the ride took people straight up about 100 feet, then let them free fall...and its cable broke, and ripped off a teen girls feet?

Its happening all the time, why is there not more safeguards on these rides to protect people from malfunctions?!
I used to love going to theme parks... but I'd rather avoid them now.

This ride accelerates to 90mph very quickly and the inertia is enough to reach the summit which they didn't make this run due to the failure. That's why they went back down backwards. It uses powerful magnets to accelerate down the flat run to reach speed. I doubt a cable broke because it doesn't use cables. It was probably something involved with the magnetic system that exploded.
