Survey of hundreds of thousands of blogs, Facebook, Twitter posts after Obama's Mideast policy speech reveals growing support for Israel
WASHINGTON – a recent survey of numerous blogs, Facebook posts and Twitter tweets, conducted in the week following US President Barack Obama's Mideast policy speech, revealed overwhelming support for Israel.
The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press found that every anti-Israel post in the social media world in the US was trumped by an average of three pro-Israel posts.
The survey spanned seven days, 48,000 blogs and 430,000 Facebook posts and Twitter tweets.
It found that 55% of US social media users supported Israel and opposed a return to the 1967 lines, 19% supported an inception of a Palestinian state, and 27% said they had no opinion on the matter.
Some 60% of Facebook and Twitter users expressed their support of Israel, 20% sided with the Palestinians and 20% were neutral.
Pew concluded that social media users who support Israel were irked by Obama's lack of definitive support of the Jewish State, with many rebuking him for "throwing Israel under the bus" and "stabbing Israel in the back."
Those supporting the Palestinians criticized Israel for being an "occupying forces supported by the United States"; and slammed Obama for not supporting the "Palestinians' fight against colonialism" enough.
