Authorities say Philip Chism, 14, apparently stuffed Colleen Ritzer's body in a recycling bin to remove it from Danvers High School outside of Boston Tuesday night,

The beloved 24-year-old teacher had been reported missing when she didn't come home after classes ended. When police went to her school, they found a second-floor bathroom covered in blood.

Ritzer's students flooded social media with an outpouring of grief over the murder of the dedicated teacher, who was described as bright and caring.

Chism appeared in court Wednesday afternoon, where he was charged as an adult and formally accused of beating Ritzer to death Tuesday night.

The boy's attorney requested a mental health evaluation for the teen and suggested she would argue that he was not mentally competent to stand trial.

He was held without bail.

His family was in the courtroom during his arraignment and a woman believed to be his mother could be seen sobbing in the gallery when her lanky son appeared.

Chism also reported missing Tuesday night when he didn't return home from school.

Just an hour later, officers picked up the teen suspect - who had also been reported missing Tuesday night. He reportedly led them to Rizter's body, which was hidden in a wooded area within sight of the school.

Administrators shut down all schools in the district on Wednesday as students struggled to cope with the horrifying news.

The investigation began on Tuesday night after the suspect's parents called police when he didn't return home from school.

Danvers police took to social media to help search for the boy. He was last seen at a movie theater about 6.30pm Tuesday.

About 11.30pm, Ritzer's family reported her missing, as well. They said she had not returned home from school and was not answering her phone, according to authorities. Officers then went to the school, where the found a second-floor bathroom covered in blood.

Police in neighboring Topsfield picked up the missing teen about 12.30am Wednesday and took him to detectives in Danvers.

From there, he allegedly led police to Rizer's body behind the school.

The boy's name has not been released because he is a juvenile. He is slated to be arraigned later today and Essex County prosecutors did not rule out the possibility of charging him as an adult.

It is not known whether he was one of Ritzer's students.

Ritzer taught math at Danvers High School, where the suspect was a student. Her Twitter feed, which she used to communicate lessons to her students said: 'Math teacher often too excited about the topics I'm teaching.'

'She was a very, very, respected, loved teacher. It’s a terrible tragedy for the entire Danvers community,'
