  • I used to believe, and always felt as though I had a good relationship with God. I was never really "religious", but was certainly spiritual. My relationship with God was rather deep, and was personal. It wasn't exactly something I felt depended on a church setting.

In 2005, my five year old daughter (my only child) was killed by a drunk driver. She was my life. Others told me, 'His ways are greater than our ways...", and "...we may not understand, but...", and the More..

    • Wow man, that almost brought tears to my eyes.
I'm only 22 and I can only imagine what it must be like to lose your own flesh and blood.

I personally believe that if God exists, he must be working in some twisted and sadistic ways to have even just 2% of whats happening in the world happen.

    • I'm sorry for your loss Deacon, I know we may not agree politically but just wanted to say I think this is the finest response to the question here. It is hard to admit that we don't believe. The thing that bothers me is the men that suggest they are so close to god end up being the most evil. Haggard, Foley, Hundreds of Catholic Priests etc.

God says no to lie, I like to think that if he does exist he will respect the fact that I did not believe in him, and never lied and said I did.

    • If you are sure that there is no God, why don't you kill yourself immediately? I mean seriously, if you should die one day anyway and your whole life is worth nothing, why do you wait for a potential painful death if you could choose the way you die today? Do not tell me that all atheist are altruists "living only for the befenefit of the next generation".

    • Wow, I guess we'll have to prepare for lengthy replies then!

To keep it short from my end, as a Christian, yes, I believe in God, & His son Jesus. Bashman, after living a long life in darkness, witnessing many truly evil things, all I can say about the reasoning behind my belief, is that sometimes a person has a divine revelation, a moment, an observation, many faiths, (and indeed even those without faith) call the moment(s) by many names. To each their own.

    • I guess for me Bashman, the proof is "love" and our complex bodies. Blood pumping, Organs working, etc. I can see if you love your family that's one thing, but as far as your Spouse....the sex, bringing you closer to God, I think that is some deep stuff...and I really do believe in all that.

    • You can't prove that life came out of primordial soup of organic compounds - they havent replicated it yet. When they'll bring me a living organism "self created" out of mud, then i would believe them. Yet you'all believe in this theory and your faith is based not on evidence but on.....faith.

When you tell me who created our Universe then i will believe you (and please don't tell me that it was self-created cause it goes against all laws of thermodynamics)

    • Is God willing to prevent evil, but can't? Then he is not almighty... God is not willing to prevent evil, although he could? Then he is perverse... God is willing, and can prevent evil? If this is true, why does so much evil exist in the world?... Can it be that God is not willing, but also can't prevent evil? If so, why do we call him God?

  • The problem I have with God is that us, humans, use it as a motivation and justification to do unworldly harm to each other. Arguing and killing over who's God is the best is SUCH a waste of time. I personally beleive that Science is the only 'religion' that is worthy of mankind' time and efforts, science has projected mankind further in the last 200yrs then Religion and the Religious ever did prior to Science really getting up and moving along.

  • Most religious people are afraid of Atheists because they expose the self deception of the religious mind. I was a roman catholic until i was 20 or so and i know the processes of self deception very well. You just don't ask specific questions, you just don't think about certain aspects of life and reality. You always try to find arguments to fit your belief to avoid finding harsh answers. Thus, you don't acknowledge how the universe works.
