Marmara: the Heart of the Ottoman Empire

The sea of Marmara, what Turks call Marmara Denizi, and the Greeks Propontis (Προποντίς), is truly the heart of the old Ottoman Empire, and underneath all the Turkish names, we see the faded traces of Hellenism. The name of the sea comes from the Island Marmara, named after the great marble (μάρμαρον ).

  • Turkey used to be part of the Eastern Roman Empire.
When will the Muslims return the occupied lands?

  • I'[m a big fan of history, especially ancient, even though it's fictional one of my favorite series of books i read recently was called Troy by David Gemmel, really good stuff that touches upon all of this. Anyway land is won and lost by force, and the Turkic muslims i think are living on borrowed time, they are sitting on conquered indigenous European land, and at some point, the Europeans will want it back.It was only a short 80 years or so ago when the Turks were almost on the verge of being More..

    • @golem so many crusades came and left with empty hands. But still you want it back, you did not own it in the first place. A+ for the effort. Praise Austirans for not letting us get past Vienna :)

like i said, you were nearly sent packing altogether during world war 1, were it not for European infighting, you are sitting on borrowed time on land that your people stole from a much stronger and advanced civilization that still exists on your border, it is simply a matter of time

what, your going to claim that Turkish society is somehow on par with a European one?, that's laughable on it's face, as i stated the Europeans took away your Empire, and by simple infighting you managed to keep your colonized lands, the future for you is doubtful however
