CHICAGO-A West Side man has been charged with killing another man who had broken up a fight with a woman.
Terrell Cobbs, 24, of the 3400 block of West Douglas Blvd. was charged today with first degree murder.
On Tuesday, Cobbs got into an argument with a woman and began kicking her, police said. Gregory Hampton intervened, "saving the woman from further injury," according to police.
Cobbs fled, but returned about 8:45 p.m. to the 3400 block of West Douglas where Hampton also lived and shot him out of "revenge," police said. Hampton, 31, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The police department's Mobile Strike Force Unit checked out areas where Cobbs was known to hang out and finally narrowed their search to a home in the 2900 Block of West Harrison, police said.
Officers found Cobbs in a bedroom but he claimed his name was "Ernie Banks." Police said witnesses later identified him as Cobbs. They also recovered a gun in the home, they said.
