Despite having the belly, the old guy was much more fit than expected. I'll bet he has a job requiring daily outdoor labor. He was responsive, reasonably quick, could absorb punishment and still hit back.
The kid was over-trained. That happens sometimes. He could handle specific attacks and blows from fellow fighters, but not the less predictable punches and stress involved with this sort of fight. Kind of like a street racing bike on a motocross course.

That's great! Just goes to show that with age you're more relaxed and can keep a cool head.
I've seen things like this before in boxing gyms, older guys with tires around their waist can jump in for some sparring without training for years and not gas out due to staying relaxed. Unlike reflexes, power and leverage are a few things that don't really go away once you get it.
