Spudmonkey: "The big bang eventually created matter, it didn't suddenly appear. You have skipped a couple of billion years.

You have to be very careful when tackling the issue of science, because unless you know exactly what you are talking about your arguments easily fall apart.

Another incorrect statement, that nothing escapes a black hole. Indeed light can not but in doing so, a form of radiation is created (name escapes me) but this radiation 'shimmers' around the edge and can escape.

Please excuse my very layman type language

Which is why I never try to argue science on here, I know a fair bit but there is always someone that knows more.

    So I steer clear

  • religion is extremely out dated, stemming from a time where we had nothing other to do than tell stories and kill each other. no-one parted the red seas, no-one collected 7 of each animal ( seriously, i shouldn't need to point this out ) and the earth surely wasn't populated by Adam and Eve. religion is self serving righteousness, arrogance. to think, "we are created in his image", well surely, "he" is one sick mother fucker!

BuckMeHoff: "Stop the presses!!!!!!We finally kind of agree on something. The human heart alone proves its mathmatically impossible that life happened by chance."
It's impossible for a heart to spring into existence in one step, but not in tiny chance steps over very long periods of time with evolution."
The complexity of the human heart makes it impossible that it was created by change. Not to mention that about 1 billion chemical reactions would have to take place w More..

  • Religion is an attempt to explain the unknown with a story.

The more we learn as humans the more religion changes because like any theory new information must be accommodated to make the theory applicable.

    "Difficult Times Will Come"
1But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid More..

MrYaar: "Why must groups of religious types decree Atheism to be connected to an ideology ?
    Fear perhaps ?
By discounting the many many options presented in the worlds religious menu, in NO WAY diminishes any appreciation for the Universe, this life or the fantastical unexplainable systems we can see.
It is an amazing life, the world and everything in it s incredible, what am I missing here with a failure to follow a dogmatic ancient system of belief ?
Keep asking questions and looking at it all, loving life along the way.

Or is presuming how to fashion facial hair to please God, or even what he should be called more exciting ?

Gaaah I seriously just do not see the appeal."
    Y More..
Again, any chance of a sensible reply, rather than this mumbo-jumbo you seem to want to talk in. Rather than saying I bleive in it becasue of this, and thus, you prattle on about how "you don't have knowledge, and you do not know God, so you cannot know myself", etc. What a load of tosh. I know myself. I do not require an invisible friend to tell me who I am. I do not need a book to tell me what is right, and what is wrong. I do not need to have said invisible friend forgive me, and I certainly do not need to spend my life fearful, or in awe of said invisible friend. I have that knowledge, which you do not. You believe in something which you have no tangible prrof exists, at all. It's tantamount to me saying I believe in a flying spaghetti monster, and if you can't disprove it then it must be true. Well, Noetwinky, My invisible friend is better than your invisible friend, as he comes with the holy trinity of maranara sauce, parmasan, and garlic bread, which beats anything your invisible friend has to offer.

  • averagejoe: "I would probably believe i'm some sort of religion if people would actually not be hypocrites. Some of the most heinous acts have been committed in the name of religion. If there is a god i'm surprised he hasn't wiped the slate clean and started over. "
He has wiped the slate clean, look at the story of Noah, the stories of the poeple of Ad and Thamud in the Quran, the story of Lot at Soddom and Gomorrah. And he is capable of wiping the slate clean again.
