The checkpoint was attacked with small arms, RPG's, and a remotely detonated vehicle bomb.
Two BMP deathtraps were knocked out by RPG's, and several alawite gunmen were killed by the car bomb.
The freedom fighters withdrew with just three men wounded, before the air force appeared at first light to conduct the now customary random terror bombing.
The checkpoint was attacked because motorists, and commercial vehicle drivers were being robbed & threatened as they passed through it.
