Gaza - A Palestinian was killed and another was slightly wounded on Saturday in an apparently accidental explosion east of the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis, medical and security sources said.

The sources said that that explosion occurred in the neighborhood of Farahin east of the city. They said the blast was a result of an old homemade rocket that blew up when the two men were trying to defuse it.

The neighborhood is not far from the border fence between south- east Gaza Strip and Israel. Militants had launched rockets from the area against southern Israel over the past several years.

Hamas security forces arrived at the scene and opened an investigation. Residents in the neighborhood said the two victims were members of President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah movement.
