Open Letter to Hamas: You are responsible for your people’s fate

The other casualty of this further violence is the hope for peace. Israelis, for very understandable reasons no longer care who is responsible for the violence. All they know is that, in the end, there will always be a Palestinian group that will initiate violence. As a result they say ‘why should we take the risk of retreating to the 1967 borders? Why should we rely on Palestinians to keep the peace? All we’ll get is rockets on Tel Aviv, So the world won’t like us for the occupation; we can live with that, but not with rockets on our population centers”.

I am not arguing about morality now. I am not talking about whose ultimate responsibility this tragic conflict is; and I am not participating in the war of ‘narratives’ about the Israel-Palestine conflict.

I am talking simple realpolitik. Israelis will not move towards peace if Hamas will not radically change its p

  • Carlo Strenger, just like Bradley Burston, is a loud supporter of the Palestinian issue, and usually don't hesitate to launch his posts against the current Israeli gov.

I share their political opinions, and like them I also have noticed that as long as Israel is being accused as the only responsible actor for the current situation, while other actors as Hamas,Hezbholla and Islamic Jihad are being avoided, as long as Israel is being held as allways wrong, doesn't matter what are the circumstanc More..

And one big LOL at some of the comments he got to his post:

one accused him of being phatetic for blaiming the victim (islamic jihad are victims...???) and another accuses him of being under nationalist propaganda (they never said that when he claimed the current gov. in Israel is leading Israel into a disaster) and asks "Have subtle threats from Israeli nationalists and Settlers corrupted your journalistic integrity? Carlos, you and Bradley Burston have both changed your position More..

  • Hamas exists as a product of its environment. This is exactly the same theory that applies to Malaria.

Malaria thrives on disturbed ecosystems, especially ecosystems that produce lots of pools of water where they normally aren't. This is why Malaria existed in Britain up until only a hundred years ago and in Russia up to Archangel in the arctic circle.

Hamas exists because the ecosystem of the Palestinians has been arbitrarily disturbed. The Gazans are effectively imprisoned. They have almost More..

  • I don't think that there's any debate that Hamas plays a negative role in all this...not because of armed resistance, that's a right all people have

But because of their tactics, and because of their rhetoric, long-term political position (which is basically a mirrored version of Likudism and the Israeli right)

The only question is how to change this, crushing them has failed and just led to innocent loss of life. Besieging them has just strengthened their hold on Gaza.
The only way forward is More..
