Yes.. he did survive a 6,000 ft jump... but his parachute opened in time to at least slow him down enough to survive.

Looks like he had an almost complete deployment before impact, but just barely. Probably want to develop some of those altitude awareness skills instead of relying on a thumbs up before you venture out on another skydive. Epically stupid move on this "professional" skydivers part.

Lucky he was jumping into snow that's what saved him! Even if it was liquid water it would have probably broken his back or killed him outright. Snow is about the softest thing you can land in, so good for him!
