  • Descartes was drinking with some of his philosopher friends in a bar one day. The bartender came over and said, "Hey Rene'... do you want another brandy?" Descartes thought about it for a moment and replied, "No, I think not".... and *poof* he suddenly disappeared.

  • Why the pompous music. It interferes with any attempt to think.

  • Come on people, I mean - honestly - an intelligible universe from an unintelligent source? Seriously? You people are far more ignorant than you pretend to be smart.

    • @FillTheVoid It's called coincidence. It happens when you have billions upon billions of chances to have something great come out of what appears to be nothing. People win the Power Ball Lotto... which is basically a miracle if you look at the odds. But eventually someone's going to win... it's simple probabilities. Same thing when you have a 100 billion galaxies that have a 100 billion stars each... just a matter of time (billions of years) before intelligent forms emerge. Do me a favor... save More..

    • @duh123
The universe is a miracle no matter what caused it to exist.

People understand they are going to die; and we have a great deal of trouble believing there could be a world without our individual selves in it.

Whether God created man or man created God we want to believe that we can live forever, and the only way to achieve this peace is to believe it will happen.

It doesn’t mean it will happen; it just means we don’t have to be afraid of the inevitable which is death.

      Because More..

    • @duh123 I have a genuine question. Why should intelligible life simply happen. The rules of a lottery make it NECESSARY that someone should win. Are you saying that the laws of physics make it a necessity that life, not even to mention intelligent life, should exist?

Where is the "intelligent" part at?

    • @FillTheVoid It is ridiculous to say that because you can speculate about the universe, it is intelligent. the words "intelligible" is very relative. Intelligible to whom? To a human being of course, because a human is asking. SO he is asking "why can I understand the univserse". Well, it has nothing at all to do with the nature of the universe, except that it EXISTS. It's intelligibility TO YOU is based on YOUR inherent capability to think. Because you can think about the un More..

  • You can only get so far sitting in an armchair and philosophising. You have to go out into the world and universe to measure and experiment, go back to the armchair, think, then go out and do more experiments to test your reasoning. You have to do science in other words, in order to explain the universe and answer the big questions. Philosophy is science without the experiments, and therefore is a weaker form of intellectual activity. Theology is philosophy without the arguing and is the weakest More..

    • @Ergastule

Science itself is based upon philosophy my friend. If you cannot even recognize this - lol - *face palm*.

This is so sad I feel like crying. Watch the video again and use your brain this time.

    • @Ergastule Why should you believe that the universe has objective reality so that you can trust the outcomes of the experiments?

In other words, how do you know we are not simply in the matrix. The answer is you can't. One cannot fully trust their senses and the things that we think exist. Philosophy is an attempt to answer questions without the need to rely on the physical world, since we cannot trust our of perceptions of it.

  • Descartes was a philosopher and mathematician, he never make an experiment and you
can't make sense about universe without experiments. He was wrong about other things
too, for ex. he believed the "soul" was in the pineal gland because it is unitary
(of course it is not-it has 2 hemisphere) and said that animals don't feel pain so
he go along with vivisection on many living creatures in his "quest".

  • We are adapted to the universe! Not the other way around. Of course it seems intelligible, because when we examine it, it makes sense, because if it did not make sense, it would not exist. Contradictions are by definition IMPOSSIBLE! So everything that exists can be explained logically, and if we succeed in finding the truth, it will make perfect sense, just so long as we have the full picture. We may also THINK we know an answer, and through that, we impose "sense" onto the universe t More..

  • Keep it simple bible thumpers. We are here because conditions are right, nothing more.

Your man made god is a hoax that is quickly falling out of favor in civilized countries, and may even be illegal soon, we can only hope.

Religions have been the major cause of bloodshed and repression of knowledge since pre-history. Do us all a favor and STOP PUSHING THIS EVIL CRAP!
