Detectives are hunting four men who tried to smash their way into a bank in Withington, West Didsbury. After repeatedly trying to smash the door the four men escaped empty handed in an estate car, which was later found abandoned and burnt out.
A GANG who tried to smash their way into a bank in broad daylight have been caught on camera.
Four men wearing balaclavas used a drainage grid and a sledgehammer to try and force their way into Lloyds TSB on Wilmslow Road in Withington.
Staff cowered inside the bank while the gang battered away at the locked front door at 9.15am on October 10.
But they failed to break down the door and escaped empty-handed in a maroon Laguna estate, which was later found abandoned and burnt out.
The robbers were dressed in dark clothing and wore balaclavas.
Det Con Stuart Harrison said: "The CCTV we have recovered reveals the shocking level of force the offenders have used in attempting to get into the bank in broad daylight.
"Fortunately the buildings security system has foiled them and they fled empty handed.
"Anyone who is prepared to carry out acts like this on a busy street with no regard for the safety of others is clearly a dangerous criminal and they must be caught.
"I would appeal to anyone who thinks they may know who is responsible for this attack, or who may have seen four men running away from the getaway car, to contact police."
