There are normal cars sold in Europe and South America that can get over 75 mile per gallon. They can't be sold in the US ostensibly because the EPA says they produce "too many pollutants per gallon". But they do produce less pollutants per mile which is the statistic that really matters. These cars produce less pollution, period. The real reason they are outlawed in the US is because the fuel is taxed by the gallon. So if mileage rates are doubled, then fuel tax revenue will be cut in half.
So any of you who actually believe that bullshit coming out of Washington DC that they want more fuel efficient cars, then you're falling for a total bullshit grift. No wonder the Chevy Volt is such a piece of shit. It must've been intentionally designed to be a piece of shit; so US car buyers would think that high mileage equates to a car being an unreliable piece of shit.
Our country is run by gangsters. And they have destroyed our economy with their crony capitalist, fucked up system of bribes and ripoffs orchestrated out of Congress and the White House.

There are very few if any cars that will give you over 75 miles per gallon, recently there have been news pieces about the overstating of MPG by the car manufacturers. 50 to 60 miles per gallon is about the best you get here.

There is no conspiracy involved
1) Us gallon (3.78L) is smaller than UK gallon (4.54L)
2) European models are smaller cars with a smaller Engines which are more efficient, European models won't sell well in the US market as people like big ass guzzlers.
I've never heard that the US gov bans efficient cars, I've heard people(mainly women)complaining that they will ban big SUVs in the US due to gov mandatory fuel efficiency standards.

@Desertsfoxx That at least partly explains what's going on, but if the EPA really considers pollutants per gallon, that's stupid as hell and not helping matters either.

this is true. Furthermore, I do not believe that in this day and age, no one can make a decent and affordable fully electric car? its bullshit.. the technology is here. There's many reasons, but one reason there isn't a decent electric yet is because anyone with a job dealing with the conventional car engine would be unemployed, including parts manufacturers. It would cause a global crisis in employment. The big car makers and government realize this and know they'd lose too much profit if a dec More..

@btch_romney fully electric sounds nice, but it still costs money to recharge. the money is going to come out of your pocket, no matter what you drive.

@bigcats And the sad part is that all the retards pretending this is some kind of grand conspiracy, are the same retards who want the EPA to ban these cars. They're retards.

We depend on oil as the excuse to bomb and invade third world countries...
We will never leave the tit of big oil...

It's about cost per mile, not MPG. Fuel prices will adjust according to the current MPG of the vehicals driven in a given country, at any given time.
