  • Look good until I saw none of them were sporting an SCBA. Come on guys. You're not going to last long forgetting your PPE. Hat Tip for everyone exiting the kennel with irons and tools though.

  • Don't know if I'd use my favorite ax like that. Lol

    Good job!

    Stay safe.

  • I realize it's 'just a car fire' but that mentality is exactly why we keep getting ourselves hurt. Good job on the quick extinguishment but taking a moment to think about things doesn't hurt

    - mask up. Takes 10 seconds and you're no less "macho". What happens if the battery goes or your water hits the magnesium in the steering wheel?

    - Since they weren't, the car is gone. Take the K12, make a quick triangle cut and drown the engine compartment instead of opening the entire compart More..

    • @MrScary5150 We're on the same page. Its old school leather lung firefighting that killed so many firefighters. "he who sucks the most smoke is the toughest man" well that shit's just stupid. I've sucked my share of smoke, and now I don't because we have policies that our department enforces. When I was a pup I thought you had to be hard core to be good. Now I know you need to be smart and methodical so your crew all goes home.

  • airpack, we don't need no steeenking airpack. who cares if the smoke has more chemicals in it than just about any kind of fire and will eventually give us cancer at a young age. approach from an angle, aww screw that too. If the bumper cylinders blow it'll just break my legs, no biggy.

I don't get it. Being brave is not equal to being stupid. I've been a FF for over 15 years now. When I started, there wasn't a push for safety like there is now, and firefighters live longer because of it More..

  • Easiest job in the world; holding a hose and squirting water. If you ever watered a lawn, you are qualified.

  • Our H&S people would go apeshit for not having SCBA on, even for that believe it or not!

    • @Fire37Rescue

Drapes of course, blinds can let light in. We shall have to register at Costco and WalMart.

Costco! Their assortment of different kinds of Sausage can not be beat. Plus, they sell Ketel One.

Few years back in SoCal I went apeshit and spent a couple grand on custom wood blinds. Thought I was really cool. Well, I guess I should mention I had a brand new beagle puppy and a 16 year old niece house and puppy sit while we went on vacation during the install.
Yeah, That's kinda important, because we came home to ALL the blinds chewed to toothpicks.

  • I'm going to monday morning QB this one.. How about using the Halogan...it's metal, verses the wooden handle axe. 2... How long did it take to get to the scene????Why wouldn't you have your SCBA on and sucking air???? WHY take the chance of getting some chemical splashed back into your face, or suck on those fumes!!! It's only a car fire, yeah, times that by how many over your years as a fire fighter?? Takes it's toll on your lungs.

    • @gammyland i'm going to sunday night RB on this one, what's halogen( i mean in this situation)? fuck the ax it replaceable, i guess they got there as fast as they could, SCBA, they aren't going into a building so why? c'mon dude your a man, screw the fumes and chemicals, its a car not a asbestos shack. yea i understand your saying the fire smoke builds up over time but c'mon man judging by your logo you know shit has to be done when it needs to be done, despite the luxury of breathing masks.

    • @AP Legit shit has to be done when it needs done. Yeah, if the car is in a garage etc... but in an open lot with no cars next to it? You've got all the time in the world. 2. halogen, the metal thig he left on the ground when he decided to use the axe.
