Looked like a couple of good shots to me. Humans are hunting animals by nature. The thrill of the hunt is innate.
Yes, he shot the deer for "entertainment". He also harvested the animal for its meat and hide. I know a lot of people who watch football for entertainment. That is much more brutal that deer hunting.
