Shadow police minister David Hanson says the prime minister must 'carefully consider' Andrew Mitchell's position following allegations that he verbally abused a Downing Street police officer. Police are standing by reports that Conservative chief whip Andrew Mitchell, apparently furious at being told to get off his bicycle and use a pedestrian gate rather than Downing Street's main gate, called officers 'morons' and 'plebs'
