Police Chase Ends In Crash

A mangled, mess of metal is all that is left of a red 1991 Ford Escort after a police chase through five cites in Cuyahoga County. According to Berea police, the driver, 26-year-old Richard Tennant, led them on a chase.

Just before midnight, his mother called police to report that her son had stolen prescription drugs, her keys and her car. The police report said Tennant took a bus from Cleveland and then rode his bike to his mother's home in Berea. He planned to stay the night because of an upcoming legal proceeding. "There was some sort of altercation at the house, came there looking for the car, he didn't have a license. His mother didn't want to give him the car so he took it," said Lt. Joe Hedinger with the Berea Police Department. Minutes later, an officer spotted the car and attempted to stop it. That's when police said Tennant took off, leading them on a wild chase through five cities. Speeds reached between 80 and 90 miles per hour on Interstate 71. Police said traffic was light, the roads were wet and Tennant lost control. He flipped the car several times. It crashed near West 65th Street in Cleveland. Police are waiting for results to find out if alcohol or drugs played a role. Tennant is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center. Police said he could faces a list of charges.
