Good Dog

A black Labrador retriever that braved traffic to stay by another dog that was fatally struck by a car has been hailed for its loyalty.

A concerned motorist who saw the dogs on a La Puente street in Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday morning put down traffic cones to alert other drivers and shot a video of the dogs.


The footage released on Saturday showed the female Labrador lying next to a motionless, yellow Labrador as vehicles pass dangerously close to them.

      Agreed. I recently witnessed a driver stopping three lanes of traffic and risking their own safety to rescue a misguided turtle. God bless 'em. If we could package that kind of honor and love of life, this world would be so much better.

      I think it's our duty to look after animals, especially those whose territory we've "invaded". I carry a stick in the back of my truck to poke turtles off the road. I used to use my shoe to slide them; that's OK for most turtles, but those Snappers will tear your ass up!

      Yep. Where I come from, those snappers won't let go until lightning strikes. In other words, if the snapper gets it, plan on the snapper keeping it.

      And then there's the smell.

      The rescue I witnessed was not a snapper. It was a box turtle very prone to wandering into traffic. I see them all the time.

      I personally rescued a snapper from a four-lane road last fall. He(?) did not appreciate the interference. He tried his best to take the better part of my left arm in gratitude. Given the chance to do it again, I might throw the son of a bitch into a wood chipper. Just sayin'.

      Thanks. I am still on the fence about whether I should use it given his/its history. You're the only one that recognized it. That said, it is such a classic face. I couldn't make that expression if I tried. Maybe that's the point.
