The largest study on the association between marijuana and cancer conducted by Donald Tashkin of the University of California has concluded that smoking marijuana does not lead to lung cancer even if in regular and heavy use. Tashkin is a pulmonologist who studied marijuana for 30 years.
Tashkin has admitted that they expected a positive link betweenmarijuana and cancer and even more evident with heavy use of the drug. However, he has determined unexpected results since based on their study, there is no association between marijuana and cancer particularly in lung cancer.
The previous work of Tashkin has been widely used in the operations of the federal health and drug enforcements agents as the study suggested marijuana to be dangerous. In such previous study, Tashkin has established that marijuana contains cancer-causing chemicals that are similarly harmful as that found in tobacco
