  • If your only choice is Islamic tyranny, I suspect Alawite tyranny is far, far, far, preferable to Sunni tyranny. For examples of Sunni tyranny, see Taliban-controlled Aghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and TTP-controlled Pakistan. Truly (and literally) stone-age.

    As far as I can tell, it is an open question as to whether the FSA is better than Assad thugs. On the whole, I'd like to see Assad go and I'll take my chances with the FSA.

      I agree with your first half, not your second. Syria was very peaceful in the past couple of decades. The problems now are both boring and worrying. A major factor is rise in food prices across the middle-east driven by the Green demand for world crops for fuel. That creates unhappy people. The second factor is the Islamists taking avery advantage they can.
