  • This is why police should train at least 1 time a week under duress to be able to handle situations like this. I train with my pistols once a week or more, and after running a quarter mile to get the adrenaline pumping. It may not be the same, but I will be better prepared for an armed confrontation like this.

      Most departments don't do it monthly; because it is too expensive.

      Remember the bean counters rule the world from a comfy office away from the real world.

      A lot of cops I know spend their own money to stay sharp; at least the ones who realize this shit can happen at any time.

    • @Kmanbay It really comes down to how much money or luck the dept has. Access to all the bells and whistles to simulate a high stress situation helps too, but most depts can't afford all that good stuff, or are just not that creative.

      True, but it isn't just about creativity, often times the brass shuts down good training because it doesn't fit their idea of training. Which in many cases is shooting paper from stationary positions. Which is essentially what the guy with the rifle was doing.

      Other times they don't want the poorly performing officers to feel bad that they shoot like shit, so no one gets the benefit.

    edit: there is a oddity in my question. The odd thing is, that there is no "suicide by cop" in Europe, and many other country on the rest of the world. In the united states, "suicide by cop" is a common term. In Fact, I have to explain that term to my fellow residents in Eurowussieland..

      Suicide by cop means they want to die, but are to big of pussies to do do it themselves, so they put themselves in a situations like this. The man with the rifle most likely would not have shot the cop, but he knew the cop would kill him out of fear for his life. Happens a lot here because they know cops are armed and will not hesitate to shoot if a gun is pointed at them.

      Shure there is, but it may not be that many, compared to the states.

      Since anyone in the states can own firearms, the police never knows if a suspect is armed or not, and treats everyone as armed until proven otherwise.

      On a sidenote... I would like to know if the rifle were loaded or not.

  • I'm assuming he probably missed on purpose in an attempt to frighten the suspect into dropping his weapon.

    If he missed while aiming for centre of mass, he needs to hit the range.
