Fifteen people were aboard a Capital Metro bus when it slammed into a building about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on Medical Parkway and 39th Street, near Seton Medical Center.

Seven people, including the bus driver, were taken to the hospital and the other nine bus passengers refused medical treatment. Two people have potentially serious injuries.

Police say a small SUV apparently ran a stop sign and hit the bus, which caused the bus to veer out of control and hit a building.

The bus driver, Teresa Williams, was hospitalized with a broken leg and other non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokeswoman for Capital Metro says she has been a driver for the city for at least 25 years. She's gone at least 13 years without a preventable accident.

The driver of the SUV refused medical treatment. He told he just moved to Austin and was heading to work for his first day on the job.
