Tired of that CCTV camera? No worries, these two gentlemen can take it down in no time.

It happened on Dorning Road, Swinton, at about 1.30pm on 7 May 2011.

The vandals used a portable saw to cut through the CCTV camera pole, causing it to collapse and transmission was lost.

Police
have now released CCTV footage taken from the camera seconds before it
was cut down and are appealing to anyone who either recognises the
offender or who has information about what happened to come forward.

Chief
Inspector Vinny Greener from the Salford Division of Greater Manchester
Police said: "The CCTV was put up after residents complained about
antisocial behaviour on their estate. Within days of it being in place
it led to the arrest of a wanted man and has already provided evidence
regarding antisocial behaviour.

"Clearly its presence is
upsetting the criminal fraternity and it has been deliberately attacked
in broad daylight for all to see. I want to reassure people that the
police, Salford City Council and City West are working together to
identify those responsible. Anybody who has any information regarding
this please let us know on 0161 872 50 50 or contact Crimestoppers
anonymously on 0800 555 111."

  • In an unrelated matter I have a PX204-CCTV Camera for sale, already mounted on a 15 foot pole and ready to site. Pole shows signs of extraction but otherwise in great condition. Sorry not for sale in the Swinton area.

  • Good for them. If there is supposed to be a large anti-social problem in the area, the police should have patrols in the area to catch them.
Instead, all over the UK there are thousands of cameras that film crime happening, but does nothing to prevent it. Then the public is expected to look at any footage the police release and identify the criminals. Id rather have the police on the street preventing the crime from happening in the first place

Anyone in their right mind won't say anything. Who wants that camera aimed in their yard and private property?

    • @quasimodo most likely they are drug dealers in this estate .housing estates are the same as projects and the decent people living there are made to suffer by drug dealers and gang members ,nothing cool about itb

    • @quasimodo Shouldn't be romanticising the activities of scum. Chances are these guys terrorise the neighbourhood and make life impossible for what decent residents there still are there. Their actions are NOT to be applauded.

    • @wattage2000 Totally agree. If the estate wasn't such a high crime rate shit hole, there wouldn't be any need to fit cameras.

  • I don`t understand why or how the English let the state go this far in infringing their right to privacy. England was once a very proud nation, a world superpower which stood firm when virtually the rest of Europe was under the boots of Hitler`s dogs.

You guys let the nanny state get the best of you, and look how much worse off your country is for it. In many English cities, one cannot leave ones home without cameras tracking their every movement.

The sad part is, most people are too apathet More..

    • @dogpiss You make a lot of assumptions about me, pal. I don`t live in Suburbia. I`ve lived my entire life in rough areas. Been robbed, been in scraps. Seen it all.

That said, I`ll never understand the English mentality where so many people are so happy to be monitored 24 7.

See my post above about those giving up liberties for security deserve neither and will lose both.

If you`re happy to have the state watch your every move then you`re wrong in the head.

    • @dogpiss Gangs aren`t purely a UK phenomenon, chap. Believe it or not, organized crime isn`t strictly confined to your little island. People are shot, stabbed, robbed, raped you name it everywhere. You seem to be under the impression that it only happens where you live, and the only way to stop it is to treat everybody like a criminal.

  • Yep. We like our privacy in our own neighborhood, thank you very much. Fuck your cameras. Keep them in commercial zones.

  • What's crazy is that in the UK someone actually monitors all these cameras in real time, as shown in this clip. Couldn't these thousands of people be doing something useful?

    Posted Dec-30-2012 By

    • @tech1921 You only need to see the amount of CCTV of crimes that appears on here or the news to see it's worth it, alot of people are caught because of it, as well as a number fights in the street are stopped far quicker because of it.

      Posted Dec-30-2012 By

    • @NoCTRL
And still it doesnt do shit to the number of crimes.
Stupid is as stupid does. That goes from the criminals, idiots like you and your politicians.

      Posted Dec-30-2012 By

      (1)

    • @coolhund I never said it does, however it means more people get caught for the crimes they have committed. That is as stupied as saying DNA Testing does not do shit to the number of crimes, obviously not, but it does (as in the case of cctv as well) mean more crimes are solved.

      Posted Dec-30-2012 By

      (0)

    • @NoCTRL Such bullshit.... A: "antisocial behaviour" is LOADS worse nowadays, compared to 10-20 years ago when our normal "streets" with houses had NO cctv.....

And the to top it off you show your stupidity by suggesting DNA testing doesnt PREVENT crime..but does help solve (like in scooby doo lolol....) crimes... thats horse shit too...ill tell you for a fact that the numbers of people "up for" robberys etc have gone down dramaticly becuase everyone knows that once More..

    • @blakeney Actually sister works for Burglarly Squad in our local police, she has been a copper for 7 years now, 2.5 years in burglarly as plane clothes officer. And I will tell you now most burglaries are caused by the same people, people who have be caught and had there dna taken every time. But your right maybe I know fuck all. So we will go with your thoughts then and the original argument that CCTV does not solve crime.
