Well, considering the accuracy manufacturer promises that wasn't overkill. And don't worry about taxes. Dead soldier would be much more expensive. Wounded even more so.

@CptSpaulding i was also thinking back to the first desert storm and the highway of death... people called that overkill but in the long run it was the right thing to do and saved us lives and money in the long run

@buckster3257
Not to mention that most of those vehicles had been abandonned immediately after the initial airstrike on lead vehicles of the convoy.

Unless US army has started to field precision guided mortar rounds i doubt that they would use them in urban area. Not to mention that mortar rounds aren't known for their ability to penetrate roofs ect.

@Sjumppanen Yeah, I don't know what that was.... we weren't able to call for artillery or mortars in fallujah in 2005 and 2007. Couldn't even get air either. We also were not allowed to us MK19's due to the damage it makes. Everyone was screaming collateral damage around that timeframe.

@Sjumppanen
Looked like a mortars to me.
A well placed mortar can penetrate the hatch on top of a T72 tank. I doubt this roof is made of reactive armor.
When we would do fire drills we'd drop red phosphorous rounds first that trickle down from the sky slowly then HE rounds to follow. The idea was if the enemy was entrenched they could melt from the phosphorous or make a run for it and take their chances with the HE.
With the right FO and FDC you can drop a mortar on a quarter.
Anyway hat More..
