It was only luck it got taken by the bird. Just in the water are a gazillion other nasties waiting for breakfast.
Turtle infant mortality is extremely high so out of a clutch maybe one or two will survive.

Can't watch but I know what happens. Living in S. Fla. we have nesting season here (I'm a mile from the beach) and periods of "black outs" where hotels/restaurants/street lights are out on the beach as the babies crawl towards those lights, thinking they're the stars and moon I guess. And they subsequently get squashed on A1A or Ocean Blvd. So sad little babies get to live only minutes. Mother Nature can be a cruel old hag.
