The Alaska Department
of Fish and Game issues a limited number of Commercial Fishing Permits.
These Permits can be bought and sold as you would any other real
property. They can be (and often are) willed to the next generation.
This limited entry program is one of the many ways the State of Alaska
keeps the balance between the economic needs of fishermen and the State,
and the sustainability of the salmon run. Commercial Drift
Fishermen are entitled to fish nets that measure 150 fathoms long, the
length of 3 football fields and 29 meshes deep, about 12'. Set net fishermen only get 50 fathom one football field in length. but can fish and own two permits.
In Bristol Bay the
average yearly salmon run ranges from 40-50 million Sockeye salmon.
10-15 million Sockeye will reach their , grounds.
The Alaska
Department of Fish and Game continuously monitors the run and sets
Commercial Fishing openers as daily spawning escapement intervals are
met.

  • how can you not like salmon :P salmon sushi is the best, i spit on every vegan because how many thousands of years we eat meat to live, although i think we should all grow are own food and hunt our own game.

ok we live in modern times, but come on you finish work and to release stress you go to a stadium or some forest area and kill your food :) and the farmers in us well you guys can pick something from the ground on a farm or something, even if you dont grow it at least your trying right?

    • @marc1921 thats true, i was reading that the total amout of times a city greater then 1 million can live without inflow of goods is 3 days. that takes in to account perishable goods and other items that are replaced on daily basis for ports or growers.

    • @nowhereman1 That's scary. Even if you are prepared your neighbor's will still be hungry. Number one on your list had better be to get the hell out of Dodge! No place to be during times of trouble!

    • @marc1921 I just started a self publish book i plan to release on amazon, and of course many people release books on fall of modern life etc, but one thing you should be aware of is to stay put for the first 3 days, the reason being, remember sept 11, 2001 and those images of mass exit, you wouldn't be the first to think the same thing. Unless your in a situation where the area itself is dangerous, such as illness or radioactive, the threat of looters or starvation right away is low.

      just don't More..

    • @nowhereman1 My fear would be that you would never get out. My town is about 3,500 but we live within 25 miles of a city that with surounding suburb's is close to 250,000. That worries me.

  • So this is a gill net? "40-50 million Sockeye" That is a crazy amount of fish. We eat salmon about in our house about three times a month. I think we would eat more but it's just my son and I as the fish eaters. Thanks zip!

  • The poll left out: "Yes, I just caught some yesterday, and am smoking it tonight." Which is what I did, and am doing as I write this. That is, after brining it in rock salt and brown sugar for twenty- four hours...
