After seeing numerous kicks to the face in videos of fights, I think there is only one way to properly avoid them once you've fallen (other than to avoid fights altogether). Instead of trying to get up immediately after falling, roll away from your assailant first and then try and get up. Trying to get up right in front of your opponent is like setting your face up for a field goal.

@Bar-Le-Duke Nice. I think it's so necessary in this day and age to have a martial art at your disposal. There is just so much violence out there. Again, it should only be used as a last resort and as a purely defensive countermeasure. Some people just don't get that.
