Two supermarket employees were caught off guard and forced into a nightmare as two armed suspects stormed into their place of business and held them at gunpoint while they robbed the store.
At around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, two employees at an Oakland Park Winn-Dixie were collecting shopping carts from the parking lot. After they pushed the carts into the store, they were getting ready to exit the store again, when two armed males rushed in and forced them to the floor.
The store’s surveillance cameras captured every moment of the employees’ ordeal.
The men then led the two victims into the office where the store manager was closing out the registers. All three were forced to their knees and made to face the wall, while the two robbers collected the cash from the registers and safe. One of the suspects is seen approaching one of the victims and intimidating her for trying to get a look at them. Once they begin their escape, one man is seen coming back into the room when he notices the manager reaching for the telephone. He rips the phone cord off the wall, and then gets his foot tangled with the cord. He struggles to free his foot for a moment, then catches up to his accomplice and they run out to their awaiting getaway vehicle.
The vehicle, also seen on video, is described as a 1998-2002 white Ford Expedition with a roof rack and a sun roof. The suspects were described as black males, between 22-30 years of age, approximately 5’11” tall, thin build and spoke with Jamaican accents.
