during our 1992 rodney king LA riots, Korean shopowners in koreatown saved their businesses with firearms, perched on the roof or outside the front door: tens of million$ saved from looting and arson fires.
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/nilegardiner/100100323/if-british-shopkeepers-had-the-right-to-bear-arms-vicious-thugs-would-think-twice-before-looting/
If British shopkeepers had the right to bear arms, vicious thugs would think twice before looting
During the Los Angeles riots in 1992, many store owners in the south central part of the city defended their property against marauding gangs with their own weapons, and succeeded in protecting their livelihoods and thousands of jobs that depended on them. And across the country, Americans admired their bravery, thankful for the Second Amendment to the US Constitution which protects their right to keep and bear arms, and thereby defend themselves, their families and their property. In contrast in London in 2011, shopkeepers were left at the mercy of feral, brutal thugs acting with impunity across whole swathes of the capital as the police were overwhelmed. If they had the right to bear arms and defend their stores with force, it would have been a very different story, and brutal looters would have met firm resistance.
Britain’s gun laws are among the most draconian in the world, yet the nation has some of the highest levels of violent crime and burglary in the West, and there is no shortage of gun crime in major cities such as London and Manchester. While criminal gangs are often able to acquire firearms on the black market, ordinary law-abiding British citizens are barred from owning guns for self-defence.
The riots in London, the West Midlands and the North West should prompt a renewed debate in Britain over the right to bear arms by private citizens. The shocking scenes of looting across the country are a reminder that the police cannot always be relied upon to protect homes and businesses during a period of widespread social disorder. The defence of life and property can never be entrusted solely to the state, not least when there is a complete breakdown in law and order. As we have seen this week in Britain, when individuals are barred from defending their own property from mobs of vicious thugs, sheer anarchy and terror reins.

http://www.ammoland.com/2011/08/10/baseball-bat-sales-for-self-defense-soar-6500-after-uk-riots/
Washington, DC - -(Ammoland.com)- The riots in the United Kingdom show that gun laws do not stop crime but do prevent decent citizens from being able to protect themselves and their property.
According to the IBTimes “Sales for baseball bats on Amazon UK have risen by more than 6,000 percent over the past 24 hours, as the London riots stretch into their third day and spread to other cities.” http://tiny.cc/8cvj4
These laws should be repealed so the people can get the guns they need for their own safety.
“The British Parliament should repeal the draconian gun laws in the United Kingdom,” gun law expert John M. Snyder said here today.
“Law-abiding citizens in the island nation should be able to protect themselves from violent thugs running rampant there in London and other major cities,” he added. “Londoners and others should be able to acquire, own and use the pistols, rifles and shotguns they need to defend their lives, their loved ones and their property from perpetrators of criminal violence.”
Snyder is the Gun Dean in the United States, according to Human Events, an American weekly conservative publication.
As mentione by the IBTimes.com, sales of baseball bats on Amazon UK rose 6,541 percent one day this week as the riots spread.
“This is a sad commentary on the UK situation,” observed Snyder. “People are trying to get baseball bats to protect their persons and their property from these thugs. If they had access to firearms, they would be in a much better position.
“Contrast this situation with the 1992 riots in Los Angeles, California, when citizens, particularly Korean-Americans, used pistols, rifles and shotguns for protection of life and property from violent rioters.”
Snyder said, “Restrictive gun laws undermine the ability of decent people to protect themselves, their loved ones and their property from criminal violence. These laws do not prevent violent criminality, they augment it. They are the bane of civilization and really have no place in a supposedly peaceful society.”

http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/breaking-news-us-attorney-denies-victim-status-to-terry-parents
PHOENIX: In a controversial legal move, Dennis K. Burke, the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona entered a response yesterday in U.S. District Court to deny a motion filed on behalf of Kent Terry, Sr. and Josephine Terry, parents of murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, to intervene as victims in the case of United States of America v Jaime Avila, et al.
“This Court should deny the motion to intervene as victims because the intervenors are not victims in this case,” Burke wrote, stating they do not qualify as victims under the Crime Victim Rights Act.
Citing precedent cases, Burke argued “While Agent Terry is undeniably a murder victim, he is not a victim of Defendant Avila’s firearm offenses as the CVRA defines ‘victim’.” The filing also maintained “The victim of the offenses is not any particular person, but society in general,” and declared:
The Intervenors nevertheless claim that a link exists between the firearms that Defendant Avila purchased and firearms found at the scene of Agent Terry’s murder, and that he consequently had a “role” in the murder, which qualifies them as victims under the CVRA. Whether such a link exists—the nature and extent of such a link have not yet been determined—that link does not make the Intervenors victims of Defendant Avila’s indicted offenses.
Click here to read the response filing.
Addendum: A post from Sipsey Street Irregulars on this development will be forthcoming. As background, note Mike Vanderboegh made the following observation in April:
Sources and documents indicate the prosecutor who advised the "Fast and Furious" case in Phoenix was Asst. U.S. Attorney Emory Hurley. His boss, Arizona's US Attorney Dennis Burke, was a longtime chief of staff for Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano...
Both Burke and Hurley signed this filing.

..exactly, i think i heard of just one shooting out of all the events (that may or not have been related to the riots). Can only imagine what would have happened if the idiots had easy access to firearms...

@drivenwell2 There were some reports of guns but thats not the point...your country suffers amost 3 times the violent crime as the USA...Your country has a higher violent crime rate than SOUTH AFRICA...TAHTS the result of disarming the people and making them slaves to government masters and victims to the mob of leeches that elect them.

"Although the day began relatively quietly, by mid-morning on the second day violence appeared widespread and unchecked as heavy looting and fires were witnessed across Los Angeles County. The Korean American community, seeing the police force's abandonment of Koreatown, organized armed security teams composed of store workers, who defended their livelihoods from assault by the mobs. @fido321 BS, The UK slowly disarmed their citizens.. It started in 1824(well actually earlier), then really kicked in 1903.. You're so conditioned you probably don't know your own history..

Only problem with this.. According to most state laws..You don't have a right to defend property.. You will find, you can only use lethal force when faced with an immediate threat in which you fear for your own life or of "great bodily harm". If you kill someone that robs you or breaks in your house.. Sad to say, they most likely will try and go after you..The VICTIM.. either criminally or civil..

While what you say is true, in reality, its not all that common.
Once inside a house, the owner just has to say he felt threatened.
And really, who would not feel that way.
and in the dark, at night, if shots rang out and bad guy is dead, well,
I have not heard of anyone getting in trouble with that.
Its only when a neighbor comes over after having seen a bad guy enter someone elses house, or when the homeowner chases someone down the street and caps him in the back were people go More..

@wharris . It all boils down to intent.. It's instinct to defend your life, family and property.. Trespassing is one thing..you break into my house.. You're going to see lead! I've seen cases where the victim was sued or even prosecuted.. Some used poor judgment, like shooting when the criminal was fleeing or hands up.. If you look at some statues they REQUIRE you to retreat..LOL as in run away..Fuck that, turn your back on a criminal..Pfft Now depending on the circumstances.. I might send a fe More..

@thevoice213 LOL, I read that the second night of the riots.. American BB bats were sold out.. Look at Amazon trends and American BB bats went up like 6000% in the UK.. I guess a Cricket bat is not as agile, easy to swing or delivers what's needed? Just guessing, as I never held or swung a Cricket bat.. Someone the other day here mentioned an Irish hurling stick..is better..
