DUBAI police say they have arrested 17 foreign men for allegedly being gay and wearing women's clothes in public in the Middle East tourist hub.
The men, who were either working or holidaying in Dubai according to Dubai's Criminal Investigation Department spokesman Zuhair Horoun, were arrested on Wednesday.
The arrests are part of a local campaign launched in May to stop on displays of transvestism in public places.
A report in Dubai's Gulf News said that the "cross-dressing tourists" would be deported soon.
"This is against the UAE's traditions and social values," said Dubai Police Chief, Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim.
Homosexuality is illegal in the strict Muslim city-state.
Dubai has also issued a crack down on topless sunbathing, nudity and other forms of indecent behaviour after a British couple was arrested for allegedly having sex on a beach.
