I cannot count the number of times I have warned unaware tourists that they were being robbed by these gypsy thieves. But sometimes tourists are so dumb and naive when travelling that they become an easy target.

Same in Madrid and Barcelona. The best tip if you see a group of gypsies approaching you is move away from them, don't let them surround you. Use mild violence if necessary and push them away, show an aggressive determination and they will let go and look for another victim.
The sad part is that these are mostly very young girls who are under18, so they cannot arrest them, just take their names and let them go. I is quite frustrating.

Americans are easy target because they're not used to that environment. Most American tourists are not from the city so they doesn't have to deal with that much so they doesn't know any better. People in the states made fun of European guys for wearing a man purse but that is the safest way to travel in Europe.

That depends on the American city. You have to be as careful in NYC, Chicago or New Orleans as in any western European city.
Not being robbed abroad is a question of having a low profile and a little common sense.

Once on a vacation to Turkey (where I might add I will never go back to), a Dutch tourist caught a thief trying to steal his wallet. The local vendors came and held the man and started beating him, until the cop showed up. Then the cops pulled out their 4 foot long sticks and beat the crap out of him, then they arrested him.. Was fucking awesome.
