On Monday afternoon, the NYPD shot a dog that was trying to protect his unconscious owner, who, according to reports, had just suffered a seizure. As Gothamist reports:
Johnny Rodriguez, who was visiting the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary nearby, said he and three other people alerted nearby police officers that the owner of the dog was in danger of being hit by traffic. "He was having a seizure, I saw him lying down on the ground and his head was twitching and shaking." The two officers who responded called for backup ("I guess they didn't have the training or something") and the dog began growling as officers approached the man.
"I told one of the cops, 'Hey, that dog is growling, be careful,' because they were getting pretty close," Rodriguez says. "I used to have a pit bull and that's just how they are, they protect their owners." Rodriguez thought that one woman had placed herself too closely behind the man as she was observing what was happening. "It grabbed her pants, but it didn't bite her, then the dog starts running at the cop."
A police officer then shot the dog point blank. For the next few minutes, the dog lies there, writhing and bleeding, while a crowd gathers. It's an absolutely brutal scene.
The dog is apparently still alive, and authorities are trying to locate his owner.

And WHY is THAT bitch at every scene such as this? Braying in a hysterical attempt to draw others into her sad, self-induced traumatic plebeian life. Prolly left the scene to blog about in Starbucks while sipping Chai tea with her toddler locked in the Prius (sporting a urine soaked organic cotton diaper, no doubt). Bullet in the wrong head.

@Dolarhyde Actually the dog was protecting his master and would have bit anyone that got close. I train police dogs and know this behavior very well. It is a sad deal for sure but was justified.

Im a dog lover and would do anything to protect my 160lb MASTIFF. unfortunatly or Fortunatly she would do the same. Now if she attacked a armed police man i think she too would get a bullet. I cringed and cant stand to hear the dog cries, but he did what he had to do and yes its a shame.
if people responding to this post would please take the time to read the whole discription it says the dog survived and the and authorities are trying to locate his owner. So the care they gave the dog would ha More..

The dog was attacking... should he shout insults at it to make it stop? I dont think Pit Bulls stop once they get started.

@Godsrage im pragmatic as the next guy and hindsight is always 20/20 but unless it looked like it was going to bite as opposed to drive him away i would have maybe given it a few more seconds before pulling the trigger..

the onley save way to handle this is, empty the area around the victim, the dog will stay with him, make no eye contact with the dog, do not seround the the dog and stare at him/her.
and wait for a dog handler, they know what to do.

So true. Everyone worry about the dog more than the unconscious man on the sidewalk.

Yeah and if the dog would have bitten the shit out of the cunt with the cell phone, she would have sued the city for not shooting the dog.

they shoot it then stand there like they are expecting it to start a fight never mind the shot was fired low and near the owners head as he was lying on the ground could have killed him ...just go to your squad car get that big chocklate donut on the front seat and give it to the dog then leash it!! dont shoot it you idiots!!!
and then to top it off they totaly ignore the poor old guy on the ground ...fuck thats some classy police work alright... good one boys.... dumb as a bag of rocks

ALl it take is a swift kick to the choppers as can be seen at :05 when the dog runs to the left, you can hear a "yelp" from the dog. The dog then sences the next weakest person (cop) and charges the cop, all the cop had to do was kick him in the head.
