was the Mcchrystal controversy staged

Would Washington authorize his interview with rolling stone and let it be released without reviewing the content first?
I dont think so... But it is perfect timing to get attention off Obama and his trouble with the oil spill response.

  • I dont think so or I hope he didnt for the sake of the troops. Then again maybe he did for the sake of the troops.

Who the hell knows anymore who is telling the truth.

  • Rolling Stone wanted to write a "gotcha" piece and they succeeded.

  • i think the dood wanted out of the war... talked shit and got reassigned behind a desk instead of behind bullet proof glass.

  • A silly hypothesis: unprovable, unfalsifiable. Someone thinks they cracked some code...let your mind rest, this was not staged.

  • maybe they could run a tube down there and bamma could give speeches into the other end and cover the seafloor with enough bs to stop the leak....

  • To be honest, I find this strange to say the least. On one hand you have a guy (McChristal) who has a wealth of skills and knowledge about his job and VERY good at it (from what I`ve read) and then he turns around and says this?.

  • McChrystal did not get to be a 4-star General by being a fool. I suspect he may have been fed up with Obama's amateurish interference. So I think he basically fired himself.

  • Distraction is the name of the American game. No doubt here.

  • Well it looks like opinions are split. Sounds like either way you feel, nobody has much confidence in the government lately.

  • They want rid of Mchrystal so Petraeus can take over, why?
Because Petraeus is slick enough to sell retreat to the US public next year...

    • Then why not keep Mcchrystal? Turns out Gen. McChrystal voted for Obama, is a social liberal, is a political liberal, and put restrictive rules of engagements , and banned fox news from his HQ. He would be the perfect candidate so you logic is flawed.

    • No, the General's will follow the chain of command.

I'm talking about media, PR abilities. Petraeus has been working in Washington for years, he knows how to deal with politicians and press.
Mchrystal is ex-special forces from memory, very direct, secretive, probably a better soldier but hopeless in the job at hand in 2011.

Westmoreland was never able to articulate the reasons for defeat to the US public, even though he understood them perfectly. And his bosses paid the price politically.

  • Trouble with the oil response? What do you want him to do? Drive a damn oil skimmer?

Obama has been to the gulf 3 or 4 times now, and talked to America in many speeches, JUST ABOUT the oil spill.

Yes, he did a slack job a little in the beginning, but as of right now.... there isn't dick anyone can do.

Well... I say use a GIANT DOME to cover it... that will surely work. Just get an old super bowl stadium top, place a hole in the top, and do it..... I doubt ice will form since its such a huge a More..

    • you said the key here. speeches. speeches. empty rhetoric, that's what he's best at. and he's not much good at that anymore either. his poll numbers will continue to drop, his popularity will continue to fade, except among about 20% of ones who have no hope anyway.

    • ummm... there were up to 2000 skimmers available, but his people refuse to send more than about 20 to 30. the rest he wants to keep in case there is an oil spill. i repeat... he wants to keep as backup in case there is an oil spill.... need i repeat that again? look for a previous post from a Florida official giving the numbers, here on LL. it was yesterday or the day before. like the guy said in the post, that's like having a fire in your neighborhood and telling you non fire trucks will be sen More..
